Black and White Portriats

I think I did better this week with the figure/ground relationship. I don't have backgrounds that really mess with the viewers experience. The only real background I had was with the guy I met playing the piano. And that was the piano. The very thing that made him so interesting.

This assignment was interesting because even though the main focus is the person, the background is as important to make the photograph work as the person. There's a conflict whether you want the background to support the story the person has, or just try to make it as unnoticeable as possible. I played with both, but I definitely need to practice some more to really understand that balance.

Assignment #4- Motion and Depth of Field (Focus)

I decided to have a theme with this project. I chose the BYU Games Center because of my unique access to it.

Fast Shutter Speed

The faster shutter speed allowed me to capture a moment in time. The hardest part of having a faster shutter speed is that I need a lot more light. I had to play with the balance between the shutter speed and having enough exposure.

Sloooooooow Shutter Speed

The slow shutter speed worked to give more emotion to the photograph. Without the motion, the top photograph would look more technical and mechanic. By using a slower shutter speed, I'm able to create a more interesting photograph by displaying the motion of the turret.

Assignment 3: High and Low Keys

What the Camera said was right....

I learned that taking pictures of black on black is a lot harder than white on white. At least, that's how it is for me. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I also learned that the setup of a shoot, if done right, can help (more than I can explain in words) the post-editing be as minimal as possible.

*Addition: Looking on other computers, the brightness on my other computer is WAAAAY too bright.
